Asking for Advice - Pastor Drew
March 3, 2010
"The advice of the wise is like a life-giving fountain; those who accept it avoid the snares of death." Proverbs 13:14
Someone said, "Advice is cheap" - I say, "Godly advice is invaluable when heeded." Are you in need of some advice today? Be careful who you get your advice from. It can lead to life or death.
Some questions I may ask before getting advice from someone:
1. Are they a believer?
2. Do they have fruit in their lives to prove success in this matter I need advice in?
3. Before I ask for advice, am I willing to follow the advice?
4. Do I need to ask advice from more than one person?
The above are just a few questions I may ask, though I'm sure there are more. But take some time and search a matter out before you dive in. Sometimes people make decisions on an important matter in life without consulting anyone - I question their reasoning on that.
I read this quote today at www.sermonillustrations.com "The trouble with good advice is that it usually interferes with your plans." Why does it interfere with your plans? Because your plans may not be the wisest or God-given plan. Think about it. You may think you have a great idea but in the multitude of wise counselors there is much safety (Proverbs).
Be of good courage today! Before you make a huge decision - ask for advice!
