Time with Jesus - Pastor Drew
March 10, 2010
"The next Sabbath he began teaching in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished. They asked, Where did he get all his wisdom and the power to perform such miracles?" Mark 6:2
The people listening to Jesus were astonished because of His great wisdom and the power to perform miracles. According to the Strong's concordance, to be astonished is to be "struck with amazement." The people were amazed because Jesus was a carpenter and the son of Joseph and Mary. They were saying in their hearts, "How could this be, this normal guy in whom we know, is now saying such incredible things?"
The wisdom of God transcends our human, rational way of thinking. When any man attains wisdom from God, it will get the attention of others. Don't get me wrong, Jesus wasn't any ordinary man, but this principal remains true - man can attain wisdom from God and that wisdom will cause others to take notice. Hopefully people will take notice of Jesus and not the man!
Peter and John were noticed - "The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men who had had no special training. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus (Acts 4:13)." Why were Peter and John bold and full of wisdom? I think the key phrase is - "men who had been with Jesus." When we take time with Jesus, we will gain wisdom and strength beyond our human capabilities.
Take time with Jesus today! He is the true source of wisdom and power.
