Listen to Others - Pastor Drew
June 16, 2010
"Fools think they need no advice, but the wise listen to others." Proverbs 12:15
Doug Larson says, "Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you would have preferred to talk." I think it was no mistake on God's part when He gave us two ears and one mouth. When the tongue is moving it prohibits the ears to hear and gain wisdom that we desperately need.
I have talked to a variety of people that want to cry on your shoulder and complain about what's happening or not happening in their lives but fail to take advice, follow it, and prosper. I know we need to just listen at times to the pain and hurt of others, but after a period of time, if one isn't confronted with "stinking thinking" they will go on to live the same old destructive way.
"A wise man learns by the experience of others. An ordinary man learns by his own experience. A fool learns by nobody's experience (Author Unknown)." How true it is. When I choose to close myself up to everyone elses advice and stories of failure and success, I choose to go down a path that sooner or later I will regret.
Make it your aim to be a listener. James wrote, "My dear brothers and sisters, be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry (James 1:19)." Blessings on you today my friend!
