"To learn you must love discipline; it is stupid to hate correction." Prov. 12:1
Learning is sometimes a painful experience. As a young child I learned through the rod of correction on my backside. Not a bad way to learn. As a young man I learned through others correcting my behavior and challenging my thinking. Today, I am still learning when others confront me with change. Thank God for His means of discipline.
Many of good people could have gone a lot farther in life if they would have simply received correction in life. Why don't we accept someone correcting us? Does our pride get in the way? Are we that blind to think we don't have any weaknesses? Often times our weaknesses are visible to everyone else except ourselves.
The former coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Tom Landry, once said - "The job of a football coach is to make men do what they don't want to do, in order to achieve what they've always wanted to be." Why is it stupid for us not to take correction? Because correction keeps us on the right path and enables us to fulfill God's perfect plan for our lives.
