"It is possible to give freely and become more wealthy, but those who are stingy will lose everything."  Proverbs 11:24


I want to be a generous giver.  When I hear about other people giving great amounts of money to the Kingdom of God, it blesses me and challenges me to want to do the same.  

According to Proverbs 11:24, it's possible to become more wealthy when you give.  I think God is pleased when we are generous.  We have to realize that God has given us the power to produce wealth(Deut. 8:18).  So when we are generous with the money He has given us the power to get, it glorifies God and shows we are good stewards of what's His. 

 It's not a sin to be wealthy.  It's the love of money that is the root of all kinds of evil (1 Timothy 6:10).  As soon as some preacher talks about money, people are quick to jump to their own conclusions that "the preacher just wants our money."  I agree, some abuses have taken place and we need to discern when this is happening.  On the other hand, being generous and money matters need to be discussed in church so God's People can be free from ignorance that holds so many captive in the area of finances.

Being stingy is not one of the fruits of the spirit nor is it a spiritual gift.  Being stingy with God's money is just a manifestation of a greater problem - a lack of trust.  Stinginess leads to poverty and generosity to wealth.  To overcome a stingy spirit you must act contrary to what's held you captive.  To do this, you have to trust God at His Word - He will bless those that give!
