Watch That Tongue! - Pastor Drew

"Fire goes out for lack of fuel, and quarrels disappear when gossip stops." Proverbs 26:20
Why do we think talking about others in a negative way helps? What makes us human beings feel good when we dash other people to pieces with our words? Is it our pride? Is it our ignorance? One thing is certain, words are powerful and they can produce life or death (Proverbs 18:21).
I believe it was E.C. Mckenzie who said, "Some people are so argumentative they won't even eat food that agrees with them." Proverbs 26:21 says, "A quarrelsome person starts fights as easily as hot embers light charcoal or fire lights wood." In Scripture, the tongue and words are often described as fire. When fire is out of control, it brings destruction to anything in it's path. Let's not start destructive fires with our tongue nor fuel the fire by spreading rumors and gossip.
If you have a sharp tongue, maybe it's time to channel that into the right direction with a sharp mind. Someone who is thinking wisely will watch their words closely knowing that what's said today may be the thing you eat tomorrow. We will reap what we sow. If we have sown gossip, we will reap gossip - others will talk about us. Be of good courage and watch that tongue!
Blessings on you today!
